We have analyzed the world experience in the development, construction and maintenance of settlements with temporary housing. Thus, a system of values and priorities has been developed to ensure temporary but decent living for Ukrainians.
The collected information is versatile. It is suitable for different types of construction, terrain and scope of investment. This is a construction kit that can be applied at both the public and private levels.

WORLD EXPERIENCE
We have analyzed more than 20 implemented projects in different countries regarding the use of the construction site, development of a master plan and layout of residential blocks.
UKRAINIAN EXPERIENCE
Since 2015, 5 projects of the "temporary housing" type have been implemented in Ukraine. For most families, this is still their home.
Modularity
The size of a residential block is a value that determines the size of all other design units. This size is universal, so you can build a town from any offered blocks that meet specific requirements.
Scaling possibility
At the level of the residential section of the block or master plan, this is an opportunity to increase or scale the construction and housing volumes without structurally changing the central block. In other words, engineering blocks and community centers must be designed and placed with the potential increase and addition of residential areas.
Flexibility
Variability of the residential sections typology, which allows you to adapt the schematic grid of buildings for plots of different configurations and terrain.

Dignity
The main task that we set for ourselves is to maintain a decent lifestyle. We must ensure usual and healthy lifestyle and decent conditions in the temporary residence of Ukrainians who lost their homes. It is possible to take away a person's house, but it is impossible to do it with a person's dignity.
Socialization
Socialization, especially in the new environment, has a positive effect on a person's psychological condition. The possibility to make new friends, be among your own people strengthens your mental health. That is why when designing temporary settlements, it is important to allocate zones for public rooms, centers, and squares.
Comfort
Convenient way of life makes the basis of residential comfort: sanitary units, fully equipped kitchens, baby care rooms, laundries. Residents should not experience any restrictions or lack of auxiliary zones on any square meter of the project.
Technology
Speed
Time is paramount, so it is important to find the most optimal and fastest way to build the housing. Imagine a family that has to spend yet another day, another week behind a curtain in a school gym designed for 500 people.
Budget
There is no need to repeat how important it is to use investments sparingly to cover as many of the residents' needs as possible and produce more residential modules.
Resource
Construction and human resources. The main building material that our country can extract and produce in sufficient quantities, and labor for those tasks that do not require special equipment or specific knowledge.

We suggest using a wooden-frame system. According to preliminary estimates, the project implementation cost is about 350-550 dollars/m2. The cost can vary depending on the site, technical conditions, and section configuration.

On May 18, we presented a pilot project intended to be built outside Kyiv soon. The pilot comprises two residential sections for 15 families and an outdoor workshop where our team will be testing various construction technologies.
A modular town for 5545 residents under the RE:Ukraine Housing system will be built in the Ternopil region. The temporary settlement outside the city of Zbarazh will have a developed infrastructure. The project will be implemented with the support of Made in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Family charity fund, the Mayor of Zbarazh, and Ternopil entrepreneurs.
